Queensland Open-Cut Mine

 

PROJECT OUTLINE

Core Crew was engaged by a Queensland open cut mine to provide mining, processing and logistics services to run the operation. The strategic partnership of Core Crew and the client introduced access to the broader Xenco team, which meant that we were able to utilise the extensive management and technical expertise of the group to provide a complete operational solution.

Our objective, as directed by the client, was to safely restart the mine to facilitate the sale process, ensuring the safe operation and successful restart of mining, processing and logistics operations.

 

CRITICAL ISSUES

The operation had previously been placed on care and maintenance and was not subject to a sale process. The project faced several complex challenges, including:

  • Recruiting and onboarding a workforce in a short time
  • Budget constraints and legacy issues
  • Equipment had been sat idle for more than three months prior to our engagement
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and repairing trust in the operation

 

SCOPE OF WORK PERFORMED

Core Crew provided the senior leadership and operational resources to safely restart the operation and recommence production and sales. We proposed a mining, processing and logistics service cost structure that is transparent and flexible to ensure that both Core Crew and the mine were aligned in the pursuit of safe and efficient production.

Our Core Crew team meticulously crafted a project management plan, which was updated daily. This ensured that staff were always aligned and focused on achieving the end goal of recommencing operations and completing a sale process. We pursued this through efficient workforce planning and roster management, adapting as needed to ensure the goals were always within reach.

 

THE RESULT

Given the short time frames indicated by the client for the provision of services, our ability to safely and rapidly onboard our people for the scope of services were an imperative for success. We demonstrated our ability to ramp up mining services safely and quickly by utilising our experienced and dedicated recruitment and onboarding team and managing the process within a disciplined PMO.

Core Crew, in conjunction with Xenco, delivered a safely operating mine during the sales process, ensuring production while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance. Our efforts resulted in a seamless transition, maximising the mine’s value and appeal during the sale process.
